more boost pressure the turbo produces, the greater the wear on both the thrust bearing and shaft bearings, as well as the seals. The quality of oil that flows through the turbo aslo plays a vital role. Typical service life for a stock TT is around 115K miles before they begin leaking oil past the turbine seal. They wont catastrophically destruct for some time thereafter, but most people replace them as soon as they start smoking.
